Ortacalar Twin Bridges
Two stone arches set at right angles in Arhavi’s historic road landscape.
A closer look
The defining feature of Ortacalar’s twin bridges is the way two separate stone crossings meet at right angles. Each has a single arch and a rising, then falling deck rather than a level walkway. Looking from the approach and permitted waterside positions helps reveal their unusual arrangement.
The bridges, generally dated to the eighteenth century, fit naturally into an outing towards Mençuna. Their appeal is the masonry, arches and relationship with the streams rather than a large exhibition site.
